If you are going to take the time to slow cook meat, the worst thing that you can possibly do is use a store bought barbecue sauce to serve it with. You are just not going to get a quality sauce from the likes of Kraft.
Making your own barbecue sauce might seem like a daunting task, but let me tell you, it is not that hard. Here is my recipe for a spicy tomato based barbecue sauce. Satisfaction Guaranteed.
BBQ Sauce Ingredients:
- 8 ounce can tomato sauce – plain tomato sauce, no seasoning etc.
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 2.5 TBSP white vinegar
- 2 TBSP worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup lemon juice (about 2 lemons squeezed)
- 1 TSP garlic powder
- 2 TSP black pepper
- 1 TSP onion powder
- 1/2 TSP cumin
- 1/2 to 1 TSP cayenne (depends on how spicy you want it)
BBQ Sauce Directions:
Couldn’t be easier. Just combine all of the ingredients above and simmer on low for about 15 minutes. Serve hot or allow it to cool, your choice.
Leftover sauce can be refrigerated for a short time or frozen for longer periods.
